They originally were commissioned as VF-153 in March 1945, but became VA-192 in March 1956. They flew the FJ-4B and the A-7 Corsair, but were redesignated as VFA-192 in January 1985 and acquired the F\/A-18C Hornet during a ceremony at Pearl Harbor as the USS Midway was heading to retirement, and cross-decked over to the USS Independence.
