They were established in September 1967 and fly as part of CVW-8 on the East Coast airwings. They participated in Desert Storm aboard the USS Roosevelt (CVN-71) and are still attached to that aircraft carrier based out of NAS Norfolk shipyard, the largest naval facility in the world.
